MOOC Week 4:
Energy Efficiency in the Energy-Agriculture Nexus

In this week’s video Prof. Bhandari, TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences,
introduces you to the concepts of energy efficiency and sustainable energy use.
Watch the clip, take a closer look at life cycle assessments and learn how energy auditing
can make agricultural processes more energy efficient and more sustainable.

Thanks for the very educative introduction. I strongly believe the right attitude towards conservative energy use is as important as any other aspect of clean energy generation, and how it impacts on agriculture

Many thanks Prof. Bhandari for you very rich introductory Video for this Week 4 MOOC on ‘Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Use’ in relation to the Agriculture Nexus.
From the video and remarks, it is clear that the equipment we use in order to achieve energy efficiency is vital. Plus, it requires putting in place correct auditing processes, at the same time, stresses the role of the end-user (households, industries, governments, etc) in cultivating the right attitude towards achieving energy efficiency, energy conservation, cost and environmental impact goals. I contend therefore that our individual attitude is vital across various sectors of human activities to conserve energy, reduce energy loss and reduce emission into the atmosphere and climate change. I liked the questions you asked at the different stages of the video and the definitions provided which threw light to previously unclear areas of my knowledge and/or assumptions. This is sound and lasting knowledge impartation that will be put to good use at the first opportunity in my country, Nigeria. I suggest our leaders and those the Energy Ministries in Africa should take this course as well – just to broaden their knowledge and horizon so that they do the right things. Some of these individuals (Ministers) do not have a clue, lack creativity and behind innovation as they manage their departments or Portfolios. Serious issues like the gross lack of knowledge also account for why things go wrong in Nigeria and Africa.

    Thanks once again.

Thank you Prof. Bhandari, very interesting topic which is new for me. Was not aware of the direct relationship of sustainable energy use and the ISO certifications briefly mentioned. Happy to learn about all this!

development of energy efficiency systems will thus go a long way in sustainable intensification. combining energy efficiency and energy conservation might be the best way to go

I think we can do better with Minimization & Maximization strategy, there are lots of losses in many processes. Normally, we don’t give that much attention in using the energy that is produced as waste from one process and use it as an input for another process , Good presentation.

Energy efficiency is achieved by change in technology, while energy conservation is achieved by change in behavior.
