Assignment One:
Solar Powered Irrigation Systems

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
You will calculate the size of a photovoltaic (PV) panel for a solar powered irrigation system (SPIS) in this assignment. The main goal is to estimate the size (capacity) of a SPIS located in close proximity to a site that is significant to you personally or professionally. Make sure to choose parameters suitable for the specific local requirements.

You will carry out this assignment in teams of about ten people. Upon completion your team admin will submit your group’s report (online upload). In case you have difficulties to find a team, please ask us the Online-Tutors for support. You can reach the Tutors by directing a post to @poweringag or by sending a private message to PoweringAg. The Tutors are happy to assist you by finding a team. First, your peers (fellow MOOC-Participants from the other teams) will review your report upon submission. Second, the course instructor will review your report as well. The course instructor will evaluate your team’s submission regarding it’s eligibility for obtaining the Assignment One Badge. The instructor will also upload a summarized common feedback for Assignment One. The Instructor’s Feedback will address all the relevant issues observed in the individual reports.

In order to simplify the review process of your report, please follow the structure outlined in the Template for Assignment One (Chapter 1 to Chapter 5). Please access the template by clicking on one of the images below. The Template is available in both PDF and Word Format. Providing your team’s draft within the green fields of the template is the easiest way to use the template.

Please note that the last day to upload this Assignment is the 21st of February.
Please note that the last day to complete the Peer Review is the 28th of February.
Shortly we will provide you with detailed information on how to upload your Assignment and how to conduct the Peer Review.

We are looking forward to read your submission!

    Hello! For those of you looking for a team for assignment 1, you can have a look at the “Community > Teams” page. Some participants have started to create groups specifically for Assignment 1, and you can send a request to join a group. This is just what I did there. The group I joined has only 2 members so far, so we need 8 more people to come on board! Looking forwards to exchanging with you on this assignment.

    Hello,
    I still need a team. I have been already rejected once. So I need some help.
    Would be helpful if you would put teamwork tasks at the beginning of the material or if you would mention it. Because I worked step by step through the material and after finishing the reader I realized we do some groupwork and now I am so late.
    Thanks!

    Assignment 1 Using Borno State, Northern Nigeria as a Case Study:
    Vday= 500m3/day
    Hr=15m
    Gtotal,day=10.675kWh/m2.day
    Ppeak= Wp= 8.0x(H2xVday)/Gtotal,day= 8.0(15×500)/10.6=11,321w=5.660kw
    This implies, we will use 19 solar panels of 305w to power the pump.
