Badge Overview

This MOOC features a set of different badges reflecting and honoring activity in the course. You can earn three different types of badges:

  • Course badges (silver and golden) are awarded upon successful completion of the course requirements. The Golden Course Badge is a prerequisite for the certificate awarded by the UNU-INWEH at the end of the course.
  • Major badges are awarded for doing a quiz and submitting assignments.
  • Community badges are awarded for activities like uploading a picture or commenting in the forum.

Please find detailed information below and by clicking on the badge icons.

What is a digital badge?
Digital Badges are a digital proof that you have earned a certain achievement, e.g. successfully completed this MOOC. Unlike a simple PDF document which can be copied, modified and falsificated, digital badges contain the proof of the badge issuer that the badge was actually awarded to you. You can then show your badges to others on sites such to Credly and to your Mozilla Open Badges Backpack. The badges there are automatically link back to the site of the badge issuer (in this case GIZ), that show the proof that you have earned the badge. See it as a digital form of a stamp or a seal on a paper certificate.
