The toolkit “Journalism and Human Rights” is one result of the project and a joint effort of the communicators of the national human rights institutions and journalists. It includes material and methodological information to conduct trainings on media ethics and human rights reporting. A core element is a data base with positive and negative case studies. It aims at promoting good journalistic practice and respect of human rights in reporting. In most Latin American countries media do not respect the basic standards of journalistic ethics when covering news about human rights violations. Sensationalism usually prevails, thus affecting victims and misinforming citizens.
