1. Starting the Journey

After a week of preparations (finding peers, defining personal leadership challenges and getting familiar with the MOOC space) and inspiring events (the webinar with Peter Senge, the Open Space) we're now heading off to the exciting journey towards leadership for global responsibility. Today, the joint journey really starts! 

Your journey can be an individual one as well as a collective one. You decide how you want to travel and how intensively to meet and connect with your peers at any stage of the journey. But where do you want to go? This week it is time to set your intention for the journey.

At this crossroad here, you can have two main options to continue to develop your leadership competencies: 

  • you can reflect about new impulses during the MOOC and connecting them with your personal leadership challenge.
  • you can drive forward a project idea, bring added value to an existing project, or create a prototype for a new innovative project/activity you cannot imagine yet.

There will be many routes in between and crossing each other. Be prepared to be surprised!  The development of your leadership competencies is key - no matter which route you take.

Curious enough to start? Let's suspend our judgement and dive together into the first step of the journey.  We offer our emerging GIZ Leadership Approach "Leadership for Global Responsibility" for exploration and are curious how it resonates with you. Diversity, Collaboration, Transformation, Innovation are the domains of the Integrated Competency Framework that aims to help us navigate and reflect.

What is your personal leadership compass?

You can define individual competency goals that serve you as a learning compass during the journey.  Trust your intuition! Choose one competency domain. Not everything needs to be explored in a single journey.

To find out what is important to you within the selected competency domain, make your own reflections and/or join the respective peer discussions under Reflect & Connect. In the webinar and videos of this week you can explore experiences and reflections of our partners under Participate and Watch. We invite ALL MOOC  travelers to embark on the journey individually and collectively:

Find out what is important for you on this journey. You will explore the leadership competency domains and build your compass for the journey.  (30-50 minutes)

Once you have chosen you leadership competency domain, create a learning journal for individual reflections.

Extra challenge - find someone to exchange with in your peer group or in the forum:

Practice dialogue interviews to go deeper into the question: Which leadership competencies are most relevant for you in the domain you have selected?

Here you can explore the emerging GIZ Leadership Approach Leadership for Global Responsibility. It is designed dynamically and co-created in dialogue with partner organisations and fellow travelers.

Our Leadership Approach is based on constructivism. The Constructivist Paradigm - Respecting Diversity can be found – explicitly and implicit - in almost any didactical approach of the GIZ in the last decade.
